In 2001 the Swedish artist Thomas Henriksson renovated the former stables which formed part of the Atelierhaus Mengerzeile into a modern gallery space. After the first year where Henrikkson organised seven exhibitions of mainly Skandinavian artists, a panel of four Atelierhaus artists was formed to take over the curation of the space. This panel changes every year.

In addition to an annual "House Show" where all the artists and guest artists of the Atelierhaus present their work, the space is used as a forum for contemporary and young art and also as a means to reflect on inter-regional and international practises within the art world. Occasionally there are exhibition exchanges with other similar Atelier houses.

The Atelierhaus Mengerzeile organisation promotes and supports these exhibitions through public relations, taking over the running costs, invigilation and lots of moral support.
